A Wood Bathtub is beautiful to behold.  In the past they have required a great deal of care and maintenance. However, our coating process makes our wood bathtubs nearly maintenance-free.

Every bathtub made by American Wood Tubs is built by hand here in the USA. We use domestic hardwoods mostly, but we can use any type of wood. AWT Bathtubs are coated inside and out with a clear, transparent fiberglass coating.  It protects the wood and keeps it from ever getting wet. Because the wood is encapsulated in the fiberglass, the moisture content never changes and so the wood doesn’t warp, crack, or age.

Our exclusive process provides an extra-strong lattice for the tub. It is also the reason why our tubs will pass a building inspection anywhere in the US. Our bathtubs and ofuros are considered a “Fiberglass Bathtub with a solid wood core.”  Therefore, they are inspected just like any other fiberglass tub.
In over ten years of making wooden bathtubs, we have never had a leak, a crack, or a warranty call. If we have our way, we never will.

Why a Wood Bathtub?

Why are steam radiators made out of Cast Iron and car radiators made out of copper?  Because these materials are VERY good at transferring heat.

The wood in a wood bathtub holds heat over THREE THOUSAND TIMES longer than copper!  It will hold heat 458 times longer than cast iron and 8 times longer than plain fiberglass.
