FAQs

 Will I get Splinters?

No.  You cannot possibly get any splinters because the wood is completely coated with clear, smooth fiberglass.

How long will it last?

The fiberglass process that we use on the tubs is exactly the same process used on wood boats.  There are tubs out there over 10 years old that are still perfect and fiberglass boats almost 100 years old.

What if I accidentally scratch it?

Not to worry.  With a little bit of sanding and a new coat of a good quality captain’s spar varnish and you are good as new.  (We don’t use varnish, but it can be used to re-coat the tub at any time.)

TREES?!  Are you really trying to destroy the planet?

The hardwood forest in the United States is flourishing.  At present, there is no species of wood that is not growing faster than it is being harvested. Therefore, all of our lumber is a renewable resource.

What kind of wood can I get?

The style of the tub is limited only by your imagination and pocket book.  Because the wood is completely encapsulated, we can use any type of wood.

Can I use this outdoors?

You can certainly use any of our tubs outdoors.  However, there is a catch.  The one weakness of fiberglass is that it is not very UV friendly.  If one of our tubs is left out in the sun, the finish will turn milky within a couple of weeks or months, depending on where you live.

What kind of drain do you use?

We are not in the plumbing fixture business so we make all of our wood bathtubs compatible with any standard bathtub drain and/or overflow.

Do I need an overflow?

Probably.  If you need to pass a building inspection, yes.  Indoors, you need either an overflow on the bathtub, or a floor drain in the room.  If you do not need an overflow, then no problem.  We won’t cut one.

I have existing plumbing, can I use it?

For this, there are two options.  We can locate the drain exactly where you need it, or we can build a false floor into your tub so that plumbing can be ran beneath.  We don’t want anyone cutting floor joists underneath a big, heavy tub of water.

How LONG is it going to take?

Typically, we can build a bathtub in 4-6 weeks.  If a tub is challenging or we are overwhelmed (aka, Springtime), then it may take a little longer.  Best to plan ahead.
